Yew Dell Botanical Gardens
Top of the list, the location Drake & I would probably choose to get married if we were planning our wedding today. Yew Dell has everything all in one place – separate getting ready locations for the bridesmaids and groomsmen (which makes it easy keep the bride & groom from seeing each other before the ceremony if you choose not to do a first look), a gorgeous ceremony location tucked away in the garden with seasonal plants in bloom giving different weddings a unique look from season to season, a cocktail hour space a short walk from the ceremony, and even shorter walk to the reception. This is nice because there’s no time spent ‘flipping the room’ that’s so common with many venues, they all have their own dedicated space. We also love the look of the reception area because you get the beauty of being out in the botanical gardens, without the risk of bad weather because its completely covered. So no worries of a less attractive ‘plan b’ in a tent or moving indoors! And the portraits! With all the amazing locations around the property within a short distance, you can have such a variety of portraits of the two of you as part of your gallery in a relatively short amount of time!
Interview with Lindsay Duncan at Yew Dell:
What is the venue’s capacity for a seated meal? 380
What is your price range? $400-$6,800
How long does the couple have access to the space? For a full wedding it is 8 hours.
Do you offer / include accommodations? No, but we are happy to suggest hotels or B&Bs in the area.
If you are an outdoor venue, is there a ‘plan b’ option indoors? Yes. We have the Gheens Barn, Upper Pavilion and Lower Pavilion.
In your opinion, what is unique to your venue? What makes it stand out compared to the rest of the local venue spaces? An inspiring collection of unique spaces that are a perfect blend of old world charm and cutting edge architecture. Our lovingly curated gardens are cared for throughout the seasons to create a beautiful backdrop for your celebration. Surround yourself in unique flora. Imagine walking down the aisle between rows of holly trees. Enjoy a cocktail overlooking our pollinator meadow. Explore an arboretum of noble trees. Discover an unforgettable fairy forest. Our gardens with rich history and beauty will make a lasting impression on you and your guests. Plus, where else can a bride get ready in a castle?
How would you describe the ideal wedding/couple for what your venue offers? Nature enthusiasts. Lovers of the great outdoors. Appreciators of history and old world architecture. Artists. Gardeners.

Hermitage Farm is a great choice for those that want a true Kentucky experience. If you have a lot of people coming in from out of town and want to give them a taste of Kentucky, an evening spent out on Hermitage Farm will be a perfect fit. It also offers accommodation for your out of town guests, or simply a place to have your local guests crash so they won’t have to worry about driving after partying. This is another venue that has separate spaces for the bridesmaids and groomsmen – the bridesmaids get the larger house with gorgeous rooms and plenty of pretty natural window light, while the groomsmen get the carriage house with a pool table and plenty of space to hang out & drink a few beers.
The cocktail hour is always one of my favorite times of day out at Hermitage because the guests fill the backyard which is draped with string lights, complete with a stocked bar, yard games, and lots of mingling and laughter before heading into the tent for the reception. During the reception, people often wonder out to look at the horses, or simply take a walk along the fence. The sunsets at Hermitage have been some of the prettiest we’ve seen at weddings and we love to have the bride & groom grab their drink and follow us out to watch the sunset and take a few more portraits because the view is so spectacular and unique to this farm.
Richwood on the River
Richwood on the River is one of our favorites because it has everything you need all in one place. And we just love the efficiency of keeping it simple on a wedding day. In our experience, it really helps a wedding day run smoothly (plus you won’t loose any precious photo taking time in travel to and from getting ready locations, ceremony locations, etc.) Although just outside of Louisville, it’s worth the little extra drive. Not only does it have accommodations to make it a fun weekend getaway (or perfect destination for those out of town), but practically every space is photogenic. The getting ready room has beautiful natural light and neutral walls (our favorite), the lighting & backdrop for the ceremony space is beautiful at any time of the year because of the shade the large tree provides, and the reception space lets golden light pour in it’s glass walls during sunset. The backyard can fit both formal weddings and a little more casual. You can have champagne around the fireplace, at the same time as yard games & a fun place for kiddos to get their energy out running around on the grass. Win, win!
Interview with Colleen Sutton at Richwood:
What is the venue’s capacity for a seated meal? 150 in the Carriage House / 350 tented event (tent not included in venue cost)
What is your price range? $7,000.00 – $12,000.00
How long does the couple have access to the space? Weekday rental is from 12 noon on Monday until 12 noon on Thursday. Weekend rental is from 12 noon on Friday until 12 noon on Sunday. Sunday rentals are 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm
Do you offer / include accommodations? Richwood on the River can accommodate up to 42 sleeping guests at this time. We have 13 rooms, cabins, apartments and a cottage onsite.
If you are an outdoor venue, is there a ‘plan b’ option indoors? Ceremony sites are primarily outside. We can bring the ceremony into the Carriage House and then have the cocktail reception in the Main House while staff flips the room for the Reception. If the event is tented, then the Carriage House still is an option for an indoor ceremony if the weather is not cooperating.
In your opinion, what is unique to your venue? What makes it stand out compared to the rest of the local venue spaces? Location / we are a venue where friends and family can stay on the property and provide a central location. Value / you are getting quality for the price. We do not nickle and dime and we include quality items in our wedding pricing. Accommodations / we are a high end venue that does not feel stuffy. The venue is beautiful but approachable and new arrivals feel like we are sharing our home with them. Set up / we provide staff to set everything up so when you arrive, the reception room and ceremony site are ready for our special touch. We are also onsite all weekend (or week) to ensure that all of your needs are met. Wedding Knowledge & Expertise / over 30 years in the events industry and we still LOVE what we do and it shows
How would you describe the ideal wedding/couple for what your venue offers? Our wedding couples are looking for a venue that not just about a UNION OF TWO, but a REUNION OF MANY. With the extended time at our venue, they are able to spend quality time with friends and family that they may not have seen in a long time. Creating memories and slowing down to enjoy every moment of the year (or longer) event that they have planned is important, and we have created a space for our couples to do just that. With our attention to detail and the importance of wanting our couples to enjoy each and every moment, the ideal couple is able to relax and fully know that they are in the best hands and worrying is left at the door.

3rd Turn Oldham Gardens
3rd Turn is a brewery in Oldham County that would be a perfect fit for the laid back, beer loving couple. While we’d probably recommend getting ready off site (because there’s no dedicated space for this as it’s a brewery), it has such a special look to the ceremony & reception we would recommend this space to our closest friends. It used to be a botanical gardens so it’s a unique brewery in a very naturally beautiful setting. While the wedding we shot here was rained out and had to be moved under the tin roof, (I included photos of the original ceremony space in the gallery below) the portraits we were still able to create show how gorgeous this brewery is despite the rain!
Interview with Miranda Stooksbury at 3rd Turn:
What is the venue’s capacity for a seated meal? 250 people
What is your price range? $1,500- $5,000
How long does the couple have access to the space? Our venue is a 12 hour rental.
Do you offer / include accommodations? Oldham County is home to many estate rentals available to rent.
Is there a ‘plan b’ option indoors? We have a covered outdoor space as a rain contingency plan.
In your opinion, what is unique to your venue? What makes it stand out compared to the rest of the local venue spaces? Our venue is a brewery and meadery in a former botanical nursery. Our gardens are a new and unique venue to Kentucky. Beautiful outdoor space, handmade furniture paired with local food and drink create the perfect atmosphere for a Kentucky Wedding.
How would you describe the ideal wedding/couple for what your venue offers? Our venue is perfect for your laid back, nature loving and beer drinking couples. Oldham Gardens is a blank palate that can be dressed up or just let nature shine.

The Pointe is the venue to choose for a winter wedding, or if you’re a couple looking for an industrial style! The white painted brick and string lights create such a warm intimate ceremony & reception space in the barrel room. While there is no getting ready location on site, it is in the heart of downtown Butchertown, so there’s plenty of cute little airbnb’s close by (I’d recommend checking out Belle’s studio, it’s within walking distance!), and if you’re looking for a little more variety in portraits, The Pointe is just minutes away from waterfront park with evergreens – so it’s green and gorgeous year round! Oh and their puppy friendly!!
Interview with Kaela Hammerstrom with The Pointe:
What is the venue’s capacity for a seated meal? 300
What is your price range? $3,000-$5,000
How long does the couple have access to the space? Our couples have access at 10am the day of their event to utilize our dressing suites. We hold a 10 hours vendor event which is a 4 hour set up, 5 hour ceremony, cocktail hour and reception with a 1 hour clean up of any personal items.
Do you offer / include accommodations? We include the use and set up of our tables and chairs.
If you are an outdoor venue, is there a ‘plan b’ option indoors? When ceremonies are planned to be held on our outdoor patio we move the ceremony in to the the Atrium.
In your opinion, what is unique to your venue? What makes it stand out compared to the rest of the local venue spaces? We like to think of the Pointe as a very blank space so each couple has the ability to come in and make our space their own. The versatility of the space allows for various decor options which can range from minimal additional to drapes and greenery hanging from the ceiling and all things in-between.
How would you describe the ideal wedding/couple for what your venue offers? A creative couple that can envision their own items within the space. One of the great things about the space is we haven’t ever done the same thing twice so there are unlimited options in regards to set up, decor, floor plans and flow.

The Henry Clay
The Henry Clay is an elegant indoor downtown venue. A great option for those with a larger guest list and looking for a beautifully historic space to keep everything in the comfort of the indoors. It has a separate little space for the bride to tuck away and not be seen by guests before the ceremony (or for the whole bridal party if the bride & grooms have already had a first look).
Hurstbourne Country Club
Hurstbourne Country Club is a beautiful location for someone who loves the look of a more traditional chapel ceremony while still being in the beauty of the outdoors, as well as a vintage indoor reception space. And being a country club, it also has a variety of gorgeous outdoor areas to take photos! We feel that’s what really makes this place unique. It’s such a nice blend of different styles for a modern semi-traditional wedding! It also has a pretty sweet getting ready location for the guys & a room with a view for the girls, with windows lining the whole room overlooking the golf course.
Interview with Meredeth Mashburn at HCC:
What is the venue’s capacity for a seated meal? 275
What is your price range? Starting at $10,000

Do you offer / include accommodations? No.
Is a ‘day of coordinator’ included? Yes, for reception only.

In your opinion, what is unique to your venue? What makes it stand out compared to the rest of the local venue spaces? We are a historical home built in 1854 that has been repurposed into a country club. Our gorgeous landscape and architecture have been recognized nationally. It is truly a one-of-a-kind venue.
How would you describe the ideal wedding/couple for what your venue offers? Our venue is ideal for a couple that is looking for a historical location to get married with a stunning outdoor chapel, just a short walk from the main house.
